Due to the Covid lockdown in 2020, many scientific conferences and meetings were postponed or cancelled. These meetings are a great way for scientists to meet up and discuss results, share information and develop collaborations that helps to advance our understanding. One of the meetings we were most looking forward to was the annual International Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) meeting in Milan.

The Platelet Society Committee had a great idea for a challenge to enage with our members at this difficult time. We decided to draw up a route that would take us from one Platelet Society member lab to the next, initially in the UK, so that we can collectively walk, run or cycle around the whole route within a month. Realising that this wasn’t a hard enough challenge we extended the route to visit Milan for a virtual ISTH meet up.

Well we did this and its only 4446 Km! you can see the full route in the map below.

So – we had a challenge. We called upon Platelet Society members to log their daily exercise walk, run or cycle between the dates of the 11th May and the 8th June 2020. Friends and Families were also welcome to take part. Our challenge was to get to Milan for the virtual ISTH conference.

The key purpose was to have some fun together but we hoped to also raise some money to support training of our Early Career researchers. If you or your friends and family would like to support our ‘athletes’ then please visit our Kindlink page – https://www.kindlink.com/fundraising/The-Platelet-Society/labtolab2020.
