Giordano’s Marathon – One Month to Go!
Marathon Progress update – 4 weeks to go…
August went quite well. I managed to keep at bay my injuries. I did not resolve them, but I have learnt to live with them. This is a really important part of preparing for a big run, cycle, or other physical event. Its naive to think you wont get any niggles or small injuries, so it is vital that you understand what your body is telling you and adapt and manage your training appropriately. Fingers crossed that I can keep on top of these over the next month.
September is very close to the big date, so my training is changing slightly. I am reducing the number of runs but trying to make them longer. The mileage per week is fairly constant but I am switching my focus on distance rather than pace.
I will probably run the full distance once before the actual marathon in October. I am planning a scenic run from the Bay of Mancaversa to Leuca in the South of Italy (see pictures below). Almost exactly 42km. Flat terrain but temperatures still in the high 30C. I will let you how it goes. Luckily the Sea is never too far for a refreshing dip!….
The Society has also launched its Marathon Challenge. This is a chance to get involved with raising awareness and funds for the Society and get outside and be active. more details can be found at our get involved page.
We also now have our Virgin Money page up and running and I’m delighted that a number of companies have generously sponsored me as I run the Marathon on behalf of the Platelet Society. This is fantastic and we are really grateful to these companies. You can learn more about them on our Marathon webpage http://plateletsociety.co.uk/london-marathon-2021/).
If you would like to sponsor me then please head over to https://virginmoneygiving.com/fund/plateletsocietymarathon21 or click on the button below.
Any amount, large or small will be most appreciated and will help us in supporting research and education of platelets and platelet related disorders.
Ciao
