Platelet Labs Link Up – Progress

WEEK 4

This week saw a change in the weather across the UK, which meant we had to be extra devoted when getting out and about with our walks, runs, cycles and swims. However, we have continued to do so and this week clocked up a huge 2291 KM and climb a total of 15,835m in height.

This means that over the 4 weeks of our challenge we have covered a enormous 8262 Km, climbed 61,294m in height, and were active for 581 hrs and 30 mins! What a fantastic effort from everyone who took part.

So how do we top that? Well, we all clearly need to cool down properly and so lets make our way back to Reading at a nice steady pace over the week and meet there on sunday night for a well deserved drink.

WEEK 3

This week has seen us add a few new members to our Strava page and so we have seen our greatest weekly total distance travelled jump to a massive 2416 KM. That’s still an average of 60 Km per member so its good to see our initial members continuing to walk, cycle, run and swim!

We also realised that some of our members who are on the TAPAS PhD programme have two lab affiliations, and so we had missed the Wurzberg (Germany) and Santiago de Compostela (Spain). We have therefore added these labs to the route.

This weeks amazing efforts means we are well beyond our initial plans and puts us near Loudes, France having spent a lovely day in Milan (I particularily enjoyed the Leonardo da Vinci Museum and the opera at Teatro alla Scala!).

So the challenge for the final week – can we get to Santiago and then all the way back to Reading?

Ladies and Gentlemen – the final challenge awaits

Week 2

Week 2 has seen us maintain our progress and acheive another 1793 Km towards our target. This means that we have now visited all of the UK Platelet Society members labs and are making big inroads towards our European members labs. We are currently around FontaineBleau in France having visited Maastrict and Paris!

We’ve pushed our height gain as well, adding another 14,970m this week – thats 3.35 Everests, and have added another 137 hrs and 3 mins of activity.

A big shout out to Tom Halford – He’s joining in the challenge and along with his mom Gayle, they are each attempting to climb Everest by walking up and down their stairs in support of the Society – Keep on going Tom!

Lets all follow Toms lead and keep on pushing ourselves towards the target. Who knows, we might have to find additional labs to visit for our final week!

WEEK 1

So our first week of the challenge has seen us get off to a flying start. Our 26 Strava members and 3 members who completed the Google form have travelled a whopping 1762.1 Km between them – that’s an average of 60 Km per person!

This amazing total puts us somewhere around Bishop Aukland and well on the way to Leeds!

Its not just the distance – our activities have climbed a total height of 14,700m (that’s 1.66 Everests) and we’ve done 118 hrs and 57 mins of running, walking, cycling and swimming!

Well done everyone and keep up the great work!
