Giordano’s Marathon – The Final Countdown
Marathon Progress update – 3 days to go…
I have just returned from a 3 week holiday in Italy. My training has continued more or less on schedule, despite the heat and the overeating that Italy necessarily exposes its visitors to! It’s a beautiful part of the world and one I encourage you to visit if you can.
I am now doing only short runs to keep things going, as it is important to save the legs for race day. Naturally you start questioning ‘Was all the hard work sufficient?’, ‘Could I have done more?’ and ‘Should I have eaten less in Italy?’ The answer to all these questions will come in London on Sunday. Whatever the answers are, it will be a great experience. I look forward to meeting other runners, being part of such a famous and historic event, and to be fundraising for the Platelet Society.
I have also now received my limited edition, one of a kind, Platelet Society running top! As well as getting our logo and website out there, the top also recognises the awesome support from our company sponsors. Their generosity will help to support the work of the Society in the future. dont forget you can still support me and the Society by heading to our Virgin Money page – https://virginmoneygiving.com/fund/plateletsocietymarathon21 or click on the button below – any amount, small or large will help our work in supporting research and education of platelets and platelet related disorders.
You may remember, that the society ran its Marathon challenge during the month of September. Using Strava our supporters on Strava walked, ran, cycled and swam a whopping 2125 KM. That’s 50 marathons! I would like to thank everyone who took part and hope that 51st marathon sees me heading over the line on Sunday.
The next update will be from London on Marathon day. My designated supporter, Lucia Gaetani and I will generate as many photos and videos as possible. There will also be a posse of Platelet Society members around to cheer me on. You can follow my progress using the London Marathon App and entering my bib number 44917. The Society will also be posting updates on the website and via social media. And if you look hard, you may even see me on the TV coverage!
So, its all a bit more real, exciting and scary. I have prepared as well as I can, so wish me luck for the day
Ciao
Giordano
