Giordano’s Marathon – 50 days to go!
Marathon Progress update – 50 days to go…
…And probably 50 new little injuries that I did not know existed!
I am gradually increasing the mileage: 250 km in July and aiming for 300km in August. I feel the benefits of this training in terms of speed, but the endurance is not quite there yet. Training in August will have to focus on increasing the distance. I am following an interesting program that gradually increases pace and endurance.
Unfortunately, I think it was designed for people in their twenties or thereabout!
I like the challenge, but I am starting to feel it! With a mix of rest, massages and cold-water baths, I seem to have resolved the problem with hamstring strains and knee ligament inflammation. At the moment, I am dealing with problems with my toes and a beginning of chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS). Anyway, I am staying positive and keeping on top of these issues. They are all recurrent problems. So, I should be able to control them.
I look forward to October 3rd, but probably to October 4th even more: finally a break from running!
I am joking. Training towards a grand goal is an excellent way to organise your life. I am starting to think about the next challenge. Any idea? In addition, I will be very proud to run the streets of London with logo of the Platelet Society and our generous sponsors!
The great news is that we have our fundraising page up and running! We are also delighted that a number of companies are going to be sponsoring Giordano, and the Society – you can find links to these fantastically generous sponsors on the main page – plateletsociety.co.uk/london-marathon-2021/
If you would like to donate to support Giordano in his London marathon journey, and the work of the Society, then please head over to our Virgin Money page – virginmoneygiving.com/fund/plateletsocietymarathon21 or click the button below. Every bit, large or small will help us in supporting reserch and education of platelets and platelet related disorders.
Ciao
